*UPDATE – Commenting is now closed. Thanks to everyone who took part! Winners coming soon*

Well this is the day you’ve been waiting for, because in today’s contest we’re giving away four professionally printed full color posters of “How Machine Embroidery Designs Are Made”, an exclusive you won’t find anywhere else!

All you have to do to enter is to leave a comment on this post telling us what part of the machine embroidery process from the poster you think is the most important (gnomes? monkeys? diet coke and sprinkles? I bet it’s the tiny tacos…) and you’ll be entered to win one.

Then sit back and start planning where you might put this big and beautiful 48 inch poster in your crafting room, and then start planning for all the weird looks everyone’s going to give you for it. Don’t worry about it. They’re just jealous they don’t have a Steampunk Bacon Cat.

    Mariah says:

I think it’s the Unicorn Magic that really makes the machine embroidery digitizing process work =^_^=

    • This is such a hard one because everyone is so important in the creation of awesome designs! But I think I will go with the highly caffeinated monkeys because without caffeine me and my machine would be in trouble. Thank you all for what you do…:-)

      • Niamh says:

        Hey Denice!

You’ll want to resubmit your comment as an individual comment (instead of a reply on another comment) in order for it to appear as a counted comment. Thanks!

    Raevynn says:

I would have to say gears, technology, gremlins and unicorn magic are the key to success, although all the gnomes involved are pretty useful too. ^^

  3. 3
    Gin says:

The I.T. Gnomes seem to be the most important step (well, if not most important, then the cutest. I <3 geeks.)

The Digomatic 2000 gives the gnomes a run for their money, since it is powered by SCIENCE!!! (Though the Diet Coke scares me a bit 😛 )

Either way, digitizing is someting I don't have the time to master, so you guys (er.. gals) are like my fairy godmothers (only, you know, young and pretty, not short and squat like so many are cast in Hollywood).

  4. 4
    Kerry Y says:

Tiny sewing gremlins with tinier tacos!! Very, VERY important (almost as much as Steampunk Bacon Cat).

  5. 5
    Therese Flanagan says:

Tiny tacos! They make me think of GIR from Invader Zim, ergo, tiny GIRs eating tiny tacos make machine go!
(Sorry, brain no worky right today!)

  6. 6
    Phil says:

    Obviously the monkeys. Duh.

  7. 7
    Katrina Ortensie says:

It all starts with a great idea.

  8. 8
    Sandy Raddue says:

The internets, of course. However – I want to know what you get if you use Mountain Dew and sprinkles in the digomatic 2000…

  9. 9
    Keri Reed says:

I think the IT Gnomes are highly under-rated. They don’t even get paid in tiny tacos. They need some love.

  10. 10
    Pamela says:

It has to be the Diet Coke….
It is the main fuel for my automated machine!

  11. 11
    BJMarley says:

I think it is the gnomes that get everything started.

  12. 12
    Mary says:

I’m going with Unicorn Magic. Although the tiny tacos are a close second.

  13. 13
    Daneisha says:

    Unicorn magic, of course!

  14. 14
    Rain says:

I think it’s the voodoo magic. It seems to me that it’s fairly closely related to swearing a lot, which is a crucial part of my creative process.

  15. 15
    crys says:

though not a supporter of gnomes, they do provide an important roll… so i’ll have to give the credit to them (but don’t tell them i said so)

  16. 16
    Nathalie says:

Definately the gnomes, such silly, punctual creatures can’t be missed in the process. Like we already saw in the story of Snowwhite, they will we able to do anything, without asking for a reward 🙂

  17. 17
    Judy Rhea says:

It’s all in the magic Gnomes! Gnome beginning thoughts – Gnome “gutsiness” to get it completed & Gnome results are magic stitching for all! 🙂

  18. 18
    Cathy Cattle says:

Going with the monkeys on this one!!! Is it really a day without COFFEE???

  19. 19
  20. 20
    Kim Tessman says:

Gremlins and unicorn magic all the way

  21. 21
  22. 22
    carol says:

    Unicorn magic of course!!!!!

  23. 23
    Christine says:

The gremlins and tiny tacos are my fav. I think because they aren’t particular of what type of sewing machine they work on. Mine are fed soft shelled tacos, they seem to like the portability better… bitch to roll though..

  24. 24
    Cheryl Clark says:

I believe in the Unicorn Magic!

  25. 25
    Penny says:

    The under-appreciated gremlins, of course!

  26. 26
    Sandy Anderson says:

MONKEYS!! That is always the answer…no matter what the question is!

  27. 27
    Monica V says:

The Planning Gnomes are definitely the most important, however I totally could use a team of highly caffinated monkey’s …do they get paid in tiny taco’s too?!

  28. 28
    DK says:

I’m going to have to go with the highly caffeinated monkeys. Without them, nothing else has anything to do 🙂

  29. 29
    Cindylu says:

I think it was the gnomes. They are super cute and mischievous looking.

  30. 30
    Jenni says:

Think it is the unicorn magic and bacon! What a perfect combo!

  31. 31
    Linda says:

We all know it has to be the sprinkles… All of the processes are important to the awesome outcome and sprinkles always make things better, brighter & more fun!

  32. 32
    Alice Wylie says:

I’m going with the Digimatic 2000. If you get the Diet Coke to Sprinkles ratio off by even a sprinkle…

  33. 33
    Kellie says:

It has a steampunk bacon cat!!!!

  34. 34
    Cathy says:

I agree with DK, has to be the highly caffeinated monkeys. Who else would be able to add all the cool internet memes together and keep the process going?

I would like to see what their illustrated Shakespeare looks like. Is Hamlet a monkey too? Also, is it a graphic novel style Shakespeare or just illustrated plates like many old books have? Ooo now there should be a pack of monkey Shakespeare characters…. Hamlet, Romeo and Juliette, Macbeth, Othello….

    I’ll stop now.

  35. 35
    Jennifer W. says:

    The idea gnomes!

  36. 36
    Heather says:

My favorite part are the tiny sewing gremlins paid in tiny tacos

  37. 37
    Michele N says:

The most important part…definitely the diet Coke. Nothing can be accomplished without diet Coke. Plus it resulted in the cutest steampunk bacon cat!

  38. 38
    Jane Hettich says:

Most people think it is the gnomes, but it is like Oz, it is the bunny behind the curtain!

  39. 39
    Lisa C says:

Hands down the Steampunk Bacon Cat!!

  40. 40
    Karen Wilson (Timewrinkler) says:

Digomatic 2000! That is where the magic truly happens! I’m getting a new sewing/craft room, and I definitely need this poster for the wall! 😀

  41. 41
    Carol says:

It has to be the unicorn magic!

  42. 42
    Kylie says:

Unicorn Magic has to be the most important! Although sprinkles are a close second!

  43. 43
    Anne Voss says:

Since I am always “hangin’ with my Gnomies” I would say the most important part of the process is the Gnomes and their wonderful input. They also are the top Bunny caretakers, too, if I remember…..

  44. 44
    mimita123 says:

Those green sewing gremblins eating tiny tacos and nothin’ goes better with tacos than dietCoke! teehee 🙂

  45. 45

    The unicorn magic of course!

  46. 46
    KariBear says:

I was gonna say the tiny tacos, because they feed the sewing gremlins that actually sew the design into the thing, plus, I wanted to make an Invader Zim/Gir “I love the little tacos, I love them goood.” reference, but someone already sort of did so…yeah, you know what, I’m still going to go with the tiny tacos for the sewing gremlins. It really is my favorite part…watching the design being stitched on, and it wouldn’t be possible without the gremlins who eat the tacos, for sure…of course the sprinkles, gnomes, magic, etc are needed as well, but they only take the design so far. Without the gremlins, it would just be a digitized steampunk bacon cat in an embroidery machine waiting to be a part of something…

  47. 47
    Rachelle says:

The Digomatic 2000. Nothing happens until the Digo is fed. I’m assuming with all those gears, technology, unicorn magic, and gremlins it’s nothing short of brilliant mystical pandemonium inside that “magical” machine!

  48. 48
    Ila Kool says:

Diet Coke and science… what an explosive combination!

  49. 49
    Ruth says:

    Gnomes. Hands down.

  50. 50
    Mary says:

I would say the Voodoo Magic. I think we all need some of that in our lives and machines.

  51. 51
    Donna says:

Its the Unicorn Magic, for sure!

  52. 52
    Justine says:

It has to be the gremlins! They do all the work and get little credit. ::hehe::

  53. 53
    Stitchfork says:

Has to be the Diet Coke — Breakfast of Champions!

  54. 54
    Ginger Downing` says:

I do believe the caffeinated monkey might be the most crucial part of this whole process. They come in handy when crunching code as well.

  55. 55
    Shawn Fyksen says:

I think it all starts with the Highly Caffeinated Monkeys, because they feed the machine that magically turns their idea into a format that the Magical Machine can understand, and so magically bring their ideas into the real world. It’s creativity made visible.

  56. 56
    Astrid says:

Has to be the research gnomes, you have to start with an idea before the magic can happen

  57. 57
    Barb Westcott says:

I believe that it is the delicate combination of diet coke & sprinkles, unicorn magic, and the tiny sewing gnomes that make it work to such perfection.

  58. 58
    Colleen says:

Most definitely the drawing of a bagel. Without that the whole thing falls apart!

  59. 59
    Annette Tennant says:

    Unicorn magic!!!! Hoo doo Voodoo.

  60. 60
    Elaine Sorensen says:

Love this! I used to design my own counted-cross stitch and I have often wished I could do my own machine embroidery designs. Envy!!!

  61. 61
    Melissa Booritch says:

I think everyone needs a little UNICORN MAGIC … Don’t ya think?

  62. 62
    Cindy says:

The Unicorn magic has to be the key. Thanks for the giveaway!

  63. 63
    Lori says:

Diet coke is the most important, followed by the IT gremlins. Anyone in IT is important…

  64. 64
    Anne says:

That poster would look awesome on the door of my embroidery room….

  65. 65
    lilithneko says:

I think it was the gremlins the most important ^_^

I’d have to say it’s the unicorn magic!

    Krista says:

hmmm I believe in the flying spaghetti monster so I KNOW magic comes from him…..or unicorns 🙂 Happy Birthday once again.

  70. 70
    Tasha says:

I think the most important part are the caffeinated monkeys, without them there would be no steampunk bacon kitty. Of course the magic is very important too.

  71. 71
    Adrianne says:

Offense or defense, artist or digitizer, which is more important? They are both an equally important part of the team. There is no “I” in team, so I can’t choose!

  72. 72

um yeah! It’s UNICORN MAGIC!!! Although the Gnomes are a close second.

  73. 73
    Corbin says:

The IT gnomes for sure. Although the picture of a bagel is tempting…

  74. 74
    Angela Forget says:

Voodoo magic I’m telling ya! If those pins and needles aren’t juuuuuuust right…

Of course the caffeinated monkeys are probably a close second b/c anything that runs on my drug of choice (caffeine!!) has to be fantabulous 🙂

  75. 75
    pamela says:

    The Digomatic 2000 – cause it’s powered by…SCIENCE!! Muuhahaha!!

  76. 76
    Unity says:

Steampunk bacon cat! Everything is made better with bacon, right? 🙂

  77. 77
    Jacqui says:

Tiny gremlins paid with tacos! Without them there would be no process 🙂

  78. 78

    Definitely Unicorn Magic !!

I totally love how you explained Machine Embroidery! I love Unicorn Magic and believe you have Gnomes hidden among your threads too. Love it and keep up the totally awesome magical work!

  85. 85
    Brittany says:

Hmmm. It’s a toss up between the Unicorn Magic and the Voodoo magic… Wait, how can those two work together? It MUST be the tiny gremlins with their tiny tacos making conversion possible! So Vote #4,353 for Gremlins with Tiny Tacos!

  86. 86
    Regina says:

You’re right its all about the tiny tacos… makes me hungry just thinking about it.

  87. 87
    Elfie B. says:

The monkeys can be replaced with gremlins. I would have to say the gremlins are the single most important part. Anyone can find unicorn magic (hint: it’s in all the sparkly stuff), voodoo is self-perpetuating but needs a hand to guide it, sprinkles and Diet Coke (at last! A use for Diet Coke!) are catalysts, but not essential

Also, there are both an “I” and a “me” in “gremlin”.

  88. 88
    Lauren! says:

bacon is the key, no matter what you’re making.

  89. 89
    Sarah says:

    The gremlins!!! 🙂

  90. 90
    Jayme says:

Vodoo magic keeps my machine running smooth!

  91. 91
    Kirstin says:

The gremlins! Everyone knows how important it is to keep the gremlins in the machine happy, so they must be tho most important part!

  92. 92
    Debbie B says:

Daughter would love the Gnomes – I’m liking the Gremlins!!!

  93. 93
    Rebecca says:

Well Unicorn magic is very important to all digitizing, but I think that Steampunk Bacon Kitty has some internal magic that is a catalyst for the unicorns to awaken. We all know that cats are generally magical, right?

  94. 94
    Christin Holy says:

Always has been, and always will be, the gnomes. Except the sock stealering gnomes. They give gnomes a bad name.

  95. 95
    Karen Brannam says:

The idea of the Steampunk Bacon Cat is the best. All that brain power to think that up is great. The ideas are the key to projects!! Karen

  96. 96
    nancy Eidsmoe says:

Magic, of course. Voodoo, naturally. Unicorns, an absolute must. Bacon cat, only lacks a purr. Now, the fact that EVERYTHING is —wait for it–AWESOME…. is now starting to be a given. More freebies, with Grandma in mind, gotta love it. Unless I look in a mirror, I am still hot, young & happening. My stitching sure is. (thanks to you @ UT) Enough tacos, coke, coffee (really any caffeine, chocolate has it ya know!!) to turn Grandma into a Zombie stitcher…… Do I fit in here or what? You guys still rock. And suprize me on a regular basis with the generous free designs! Thank you, and another Happy Birthday

  97. 97
    Janice says:

Totally the monkeys! Nothing happens without them!

  98. 98
    Sharkgoddess says:

No question, it’s the unicorn magic!!! =D

  99. 99
    Kent says:

It has to be that highly caffinated monkey chewing on its pencil.

  100. 100
    vshaynes says:

I loved the original posting and I would love to have this posted in my studio to remind me that sometimes you just have to mix it up and go crazy!

  101. 101
    Kiki says:

Do you even need to ask?? SteamPunk Bacon cat!!! I mean it’s bacon!

  102. 102
    Tracey Mc says:

The most important part are sprinkles of course. Sprinkles add awesome

  103. 103
    Ambre says:

Although its not really part of the process, it’s involved with this particular project portrayed on the poster…The answer is clearly bacon! Anytime anything has ANYTHING to do with bacon, that becomes the most important part…thats what makes the design so much better than the 3 mona lisa duplicates!

However, if I had to state the most important general process, I think the unicorn magic takes the cake, quite possibly literally….that would be very cool, to take cake with unicorn magic, eat some, then turn it into an embroidery design, the left overs that is….although, I’m not sure there are a lot of people who would want left over cake embroidered on a lot of things….. the unicorn eating the cake would be much better…topped with bacon… A BACON CAKE EATING UNICORN!!!

    okay….I’m done…..

  104. 104
    Missy K. says:

The whole process amazes me. It is hard to choose a favorite. Vodoo and unicorn magic will have to be my favorite.

  105. 105
    Alex Bowden says:

I love the the bacon Kitty who is also dressed up in steampunk!!!!

  106. 106
    Suzanne D says:

It’s all about Steampunk Bacon Cat! I have one here at home in fact!

  107. 107
    Donna says:

    Robots. Gotta have robots. 😀

  108. 108
    Evana says:

The unicorn. One must always have a unicorn.

  109. 109
    Emma says:

Ooo tiny tacos… No, I.T gnomes… No, tiny tacos… Oh I could be here all night 🙂 can we just call it a tie?

  110. 110
    Ashley says:

I would have to say that I love the IT gnomes since they are the ones who make sure everything is working but I love the whole poster!! The gremlins, gnomes, the monsters and monkeys!! Though we cannot forget a big help to the whole thing lots and LOTS of COFFEE!!

  111. 111
    Susan says:

I think the caffeinated monkeys play the critical part. The planning gnomes have to come up with ideas but the caffeinated monkeys provide the actual creative genius to create the design. I have to say, I can identify with those little wired up guys. Without my caffeine, I’d never get anything done.

  112. 112
    Sierra says:

Diet Coke, sprinkles, and SCIENCE! are the most important parts, obviously! 🙂

  113. 113
    Barbi says:

I may have to agree that the tiny tacos are necessary to fuel the creative process. Mmm, maybe it is combining the great Interwebs memes of bacon. lol cats, and steampunk that makes it so funny and relavent. I loved this image so much that I set it as my pc wallpaper as soon as I saw this great image!

  114. 114
    Karen Rilstone says:

    Ahhhhhhh”… I can’t choose….diet coke or monkeys for me.

  115. 115
    Karen Misner says:

Couldn’t do it without gnomes AND tiny tacos 🙂

  116. 116
    Donna Bergeson says:

I think it’s the voodoo magic that really makes the designs come together, but whatever it is, it DOES work, the designs are AWESOME!!

  117. 117
    SusanB says:

Obviously the gears are the most important part! They make everything better.

  118. 118
    JoeV says:

Clearly the Diet Coke is the most important. As natures most perfect beverage it just has to have magic powers.

  119. 119
    Sue Scott says:

I love bacon and cats. I’m feeling luck.

  120. 120
    Charlene says:

Gnomes – seen and unseen – but definitely working magic in the Digomatic!

  121. 121
    Katrina P. says:

The gnomes! It’s all about the gnomes!

  122. 122
    Debbie says:

Caffeine gets it going but science rules!

  123. 123
    Cassandra says:

My favorite part of this process is the I.T. Gnomes! What workplace doesn’t need IT gomes?? If there were gnomes working for all big businesses there would be no such thing as computer problems. Infactwe should get the gnomes into politics – oh the potential!

  124. 124

Definitely the highly caffienated monkeys are KEY!!! I know the I.T. Gnomes are also highly caffienated!

  125. 125
    alex fullerton says:

    Lawana says:

most definitely the sewing gremlins!!! thanks for your fantastic fun giveaways keeps my world interesting

  128. 128
    Ceola says:

The most important part is The Digomatic 2000, though the highly caffeinated monkey are a close second. Science and caffeine? Yes, please.

  129. 129
    Cindy Hanrahan says:

Oh it’s sprinkles for me – sprinkles make everything fun!

  130. 130
    Sue says:

I think it’s a combination of the gnomes and the unicorn magic. I love your site! Long live Urban Threads!

  131. 131
    Lia says:

The most important part of the process to me is a healthy combination of special gnome creativity and ingenuity (who else could have dreamed up the greatness that is Steampunk Bacon Cat) and SCIENCE. SCIENCE is of the utmost importance.

  132. 132
    Louise Grivetti says:

It is the twisted brilliant thoughts that you can can bring to life for the rest of us…

  133. 133

    Tabitha O. says:

Uh yea Steampunk Bacon Cat with a rainbow, top hat and sparkle is the center of this awesomeness!

  137. 137
    Brenda Nicholson says:

I think that UNICORN MAGIC is the most important part (not that it would all work without any of the special components…).

  138. 138

It’s gotta be the Voodoo Magic and the Tiny Sewing Gremlins for sure! I know mine includes those and a few demons to boot. Thank you for showing my 6 year old what kind of fun us mommas can really have!@

  139. 139
    jeanne e. says:

i think it is a toss-up between unicorn magic and GNOMES! weee….

  140. 140
    Christine says:

    Definitely caffeinated monkeys!

  141. 141
    Melissa says:

Tiny tacos! We know how cranky those gremlins get when they are hungry!

  142. 142
    Linda says:

    Gnomes for sure 🙂

  143. 143
    Julian says:

The IT gnomes. Without them, it’s all incomprehensible g(n)obbledyg(n)ook. And they need some of the gremlins’ tacos.

  144. 144
    Rebecca says:

The gremlins are the most important part, and you have to treat them just right, or they WILL stuff up the sewing on you. You can have everything else just so, but if the gremlins don’t want to play NOTHING will make that design come out right!

  145. 145
    CYNTHIA says:

definitely the digomatic 2000. sprinkles and science can’t be beat.

  146. 146
    Elizabeth Keller says:

  148. 148
    Meredith says:

For real, tiny sewing gremlins paid in tiny tacos!

  149. 149

It’s def the monkey that’s eating his pencil, he’s the true genius behind the entire process 😉

  150. 150
    Mandy says:

I know when I’m digitizing I absolutely rely on gremlins and unicorn magic otherwise all my designs would be sub-par. So I’m gonna say gremlins and unicorns. 🙂

  151. 151
    Sarah says:

I vote for the Digimatic 2000 and SCIENCE!!!! being the most important. Although, without ideas, even SCIENCE!!! is nothing!
