Waste Not

What do you do with your empty spools?

What do you do with your empty thread spools?

Flickr user Zombina Facepalm dyes wool roving lovely colors and felts them. What a gorgeous idea. We’ve seen the idea of reusing spools before before and I think upcycling them into something beautiful is a great way for them to find new life. Imagine a whole wall of these!

In the right colors, these would make cute and fast holiday ornaments–for all sorts of holidays!

Now I want to learn to felt. Like I need ANOTHER hobby.

My idea actually to cut and paste my families photos onto the ends and display them in a basket center piece of my coffee table. Or sewing room desk, or desk at work. Some place where all my loves are in one place. 😀 Thanks for sharing my spooly goodness. 😀

I’m collecting enough spools to build an Ionian temple. Still collecting. Haven’t started building yet. Or maybe I should just ask LEGO’s polymer extrusion facilities what their exchange rate is, to help support my family’s LEGO addiction.
