Steampunk Alchemy – Turning Thread Into Gold
Finishing off Urban Threads’ last big bunch of steampunk for the summer, we’re very excited to introduce the new Steampunk Alchemy series. With this series, we were equally inspired by the fascinating symbols and designs that alchemy offers, and with the play on the process of alchemy itself — turning something into gold.
With theĀ Baroque Punk series from earlier in the year, we experimented heavily with stitch direction, and how amazingly sculptural it can be. When looking around for steampunk influences, I was struck by how much the steampunk style incorporates sculpted metal objects. So this series is designed not only to utilize all the wonderfully mystical symbolism of this long ago idea, but to use stitch direction and fills to make the threads evoke the look of metal, silver, and most importantly gold.
So when you stitch these designs out on you machine, and watch your thread make sculptural shapes in metal hues, you can watch the closest thing we have to the magic of alchemy these days: thread into gold. Through Aug. 19, 2012, these new designs are all on sale!

Deliberate digitizing gives these designs so much dimension, you won’t believe they’re embroidered flat on fabric. Follow our color scheme, or simply choose a few closely related hues and let the designs work their magic!

Alchemal symbols and classical instruments bring age-old mystique to whatever you create with these designs. Enchanting decor? An intricate costume? A journal cover? They’ll all look great with a bit of alchemy.

Tiny pops of an accent color (here, violet, though of course you may use whatever you like) bring a spark of interest to the stitching.

They’re classy enough to embellish a bit of stylin’ home decor, while the mystical mood will enhance a full-out steampunk costume.

Ornate and pretty cogs and clockwork create a dynamic, mechanical, almost ticking feel.

Through Aug. 19, 2012, get these Steampunk Alchemy designs on sale, individually or as a pack! Then make the magic happen. We can’t wait to see what you create with these designs!
