Prudent Baby’s How To Use An Embroidery Machine

Are you one of those folks who perhaps haunts the site and secretly wishes for an embroidery machine? Do you wonder about just what the process is like? We have a couple basic tutorials to help you get acquainted with an embroidery machine, but there’s nothing like seeing it in action for those who are curious.

Jaime on Prudent Baby does an excellent job in this video showing you the basic steps of this machine. As she points out, it is quite affordable at only $297 on Amazon, so it’s a great beginner model for those of you looking at the price tags before jumping in. Personally, I would love to see the folks who make machines aim for an affordable model with a 5×7 hoop. We work very hard to ensure that 95% of our designs work in a 4×4, but what we hear most from 4×4 customers is that their number one wish is for a larger hoop.

Of course, we hear from our 5×7 customers that they long for a 6×10 or larger hoop too. So take that for what you will. I guess everyone always wants a little more, a little bigger, that’s just the nature of it, because embroidery certainly is fun at big sizes. Still, if you’ve been looking to jump in to machine embroidery, this video is a great little introduction to a very affordable machine.

UT Tutorial – Battenburg Lace Choker

Looking for something dark and romantic to top off this spooktacular week? We have just the thing…

Grab our new Battenburg lace choker! The new Battenburg lace style stitches up a softer and more delicate design that’s great for wearable pieces like chokers. We dressed it up with chains & charms to make it perfect for a gothic and glam night out.

Pair it with some of our other lace pieces, like this Day of the Dead Mask, and you have an elegant look for any dark occasion. It may not be Halloween yet, but that’s no reason not to look this awesome.

Get the design here, and then check out the full tutorial here!

Halloween Sneak Peek

Seeing as this week is all about everyone’s favorite scary season (yay Halloween in July!) I thought I’d show you a sneak peek of what I’m working on for this upcoming Halloween season. We figured, we have a Christmas unicorn. It seems a shame not to have a Halloween one!

So there’s a little peek at my process. He started as a pencil sketch, and now I’m refining him in Illustrator. He’s far from finished, but I thought I’d share! What do you think of him so far?

*UPDATE – He’s finished! Off to be digitized. You’ll see him again around the Halloween season*

Artnatomy

Delicate stitches? Check. Pink satin? Check. Light and lacy skulls? Check and check. Anytime I see pink and pretty and skulls and bones together I’m on board.

These amazing chain stitched pillows are from the series Artnatomy, from artist Cecile Dachary. You can just appreciate the delicate stitches and dark motifs as some great inspiration, or visit Yellow Velvet to actually buy them and find out more about the project. The website is in french, so you’ll want to have google translate on!
